For a first bow I think the tech29 is a bad choice because of the short ATA of 29.5" and 6.5" brace height. Don't get me wrong I'm not bashing the bow it is a fine bow but just not for a beginner. One other thing the bow only goes up to 29" draw so if your dad has long arms and is above 29" on the draw length I would look for something different.
