For varmints and whitetails, a 25-06 is hard to beat. There are a lot of nice bullets in the 110 t0 120 grain for whitetails, and lighter 75 and 87 grain bullets for coyotes. Lighter guns like the .222 and .223 work better for varmints if you are saving the pelts, but they aren't necessarily choice deer rifles.
