can i offer something here on bore butter. i bought my 2 tc hawkins in 1972 ..50cal flintlock. i have used bore butter from that time to now and never had patch come out brown with rust, never. i dont even wash barrel out with soapy water. i take#13 bore cleaner, you wont believe this but i still have bottles from 1972 , ha and i used them today to clean. then i take patch with bore butter on and in it goes. i have bore light and my bore is real nice.i have used 370 gr. MAXI-BALLS with bore butter on from 1972 to now. no problems. i cant understand why so many are having problems with bore butter.i hunt hard in all kinds of weather, going out tommorrow for a buck. i really baffles me why so much trouble with bore butter. i am not a cleaner of gun expert also. at end of season ,iuse # 13,dry it and in goes bore butter heavy, trust me, i have no rust and never did. take care.
