I'd call Thompson Center and ask their tech about this. When you start to alter something like that it could void the warranty as well as pose a danger to you.. This is something a gunsmith or better yet, a Thompson Center representative should address.

I know just how you feel. My dog who loves to sit next to me when I shoot knocked my rifle rack over one afternoon. Thank goodness no real damage was done. He get so excited when he sees someone shoot ANYTHING, he just trembles with anticipation of chasing something down.
