The MSRP for the super-mag is only $50 extra. Well worth it if turkey or duck are on the list in my opinion. However if you're not turned off by the idea of a used gun....or the use of an auto you might consider a used 11-87 (or a whole slew of non-rem) in your price-range. Some of those turkey loads can get alot meaner on your shoulder than a 30-06. An auto will weigh a little more and the action itself with absorb some of it for you. You'll hear person after person preach of the evil known as the auto-shotgun for waterfowl hunting but I find there are only two requirements. Keep the thing clean (and DON'T over oil it) and don't let it go in the water when its below freezing. If you're willing to do that...then there's no reason to shy away from them.
