The 7600 while looked down on by Bolt action purists is actually a very effective and reliable hunting rifle. As accurate as many bolts and without the reliability issues of its semi auto sibling. As for which chambering, depends on what you hunt really. If elk and moose are what you hunt then an 06 or Whelen are great. If deer only then a .270 would be my choice.
