The numbers are usually the range for non-reflective targets. I went to Nikon and pulled these specs for you and it confirmed that it is 1200 yards. I use Nikon for my rangefinder, which is the 400. I don't need more than that for bowhunting. I also use the Monarch 10x42 ATB binocs and I have 2 different Monarch scopes for my .270 and my TC Encore. As you can see, I am a big Nikon fan.
