Hello and Happy New Year,
Sometime next Fall I'll have an opportunity to travel down to south Texas to hunt whitetails and hogs on a private ranch. I've hunted whitetails for 38 years but hogs will be a new experience for me. I won't be looking to kill overly large hogs but something in the 100 lb. class. This is what has been suggested by the guys down there as "good eat'n pigs".
My question is about rifles and calibers. I'll probably bring my 7mm-08 for the whitetails. Is this an appropriate hog gun? I have quite a few other choices up through the 30 caliber family.
I've been told the whitetails are smaller here than our bigger northern deer, if so, might I choose a smaller caliber such as the .243 for both.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
