Doc, I can see why you are ticked off. I prolly would be too. He may have just been excited and didn't take the time to look real good. It happens especially to new hunters or those without a lot of kill experience. Talking to him about "why" your angry would be best. He may not even exactly understand why you are upset. Try to be the better man and mentor and keep him interested in hunting, but don't forsake him. That helps nobody.....My.02

As for shooting the deer after dark with a light. I would have done the same thing. It called ethics! A wounded deer does not deserve to suffer if it can be killed quickly. NY and others on here seem to take every opportunity to hammer someone regardless of the situation. IMO you did what 95% ofth hunters in your same situation would have done.
