This year has been a little up and down for me. I did see 2 shooters this year, but neither one presented a shot that I was comfortable with. Yesterday my buddy and I went out for one last try. I saw one doe in the morning-no shot. In the afternoon I saw 3 does and 2 fawns. Again none of the does presented a shot. At sundown a decent 8 pointer walked out at 30 yards and presented a perfect broadside shot. I was less than perfect, but I did punch through one lung and cut the other. I gave him a full hour and followed with flashlights. He left a great blood trail, but it went for a long way with several changes in direction. It took a full hour to find him and he was stiff when we did find him. The amazing thing to me was that all of the blood was from the arrow holes and none of it came out his mouth. While he wasn't any wall hanger, he was a great buck for one coming after gun season and as the sun set on my last hunt of the year. The drag out of that hole was tough but enjoyable. I also need to make a special thanks to my buddy for helping me with the tracking and dragging-he didn't field dress him, but I guess you have to do some things yourself.
