RE: got a 9 pointer yesterday evenin!
ok here's the story. I'll get the bad part out of the way first. coyotes found him before i did.
I shot the buck about 6:15. he was standin behind a holly bush and all I could see was most of his back from his front shoulder back.
I threaded the arrow through the holly, and it didn't sound like a hit, and he didn't act like he'd been hit. never heard him fall or anything. I got down thinkin I'd missed him. I looked for my arrow but couldn't find it, so i walked in the direction he ran. made a huge circle found not one drop of blood. it was dark by then, so I decided to go home and come back the next mornin. got over there about 7:30 next mornin, and looked for my arrow again, still couldn't find it. I walked down the hill to where i last heard them when they ran off. I noticed a trail along side a small creek, and followed it. I had walked about 20 yds and noticed a good bit of blood on a bush. I got excited then because I knew I'd hit him. he bound of been bleedin internally because all i could find was a tiny drop of blood every few yards. I followed these little drops across a creek and through a thicket, then i lost all track of blood. I was just fixin to turn around and go get help to track him, when I saw him layin about 35 yds ahead of me. the coyotes had eaten from his shoulders slam to his rear. nothin but ribs showin. I hated that, but that's not the first one I've lost to coyotes. I just cut his head off in front of his shoulders. I know most of you will say i done wrong by not tryin harder to find him last night. maybe i did, but i can honestly say that as bad as my eyes are, I don't think I would have ever found any blood at night. anyway, that's my story and I'm stickin to it!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> I know one thing, I'm really proud of that deer, even though I didn't get the meat. he's my biggest to date.
