Not sure about the 17 HMR. I just put one on my slug gun last year though, as i get older my eyes are not what they used to be (did I just say that
) I only sight my slug gun in at 50 yrds but at 2 inches high. This has worked on deer out to 110 yards so far. Also thinking of one for my muzzleloader here we can't put a scope on one. Need to see what the rules are though..
