The two main shots are the head and neck or at wing butts. Maybe a spine shot if the bird turns his back on you and drops his fan. Any way you look at it, the kill zone isn't very big.
You don't want a passthru on a body shot. You want the arrow to stay inside the body so it'll have a hard time flying if you don'tdisable the wing (you're aiming to take out the wing butt and heart/lungs at the same time).
The head is about the same size kill zone as the heart/lung area, but it's moving around a lot more. Makes it a harder target. Honestly, I think I like trying the head/neck shot better. If I miss, it's generally a clean miss. With a body shot, a miss can mean a turkey flying off with my arrow in it, never tobe seen again.
I like to have a couple of calls. A diaphram and a slate or box call. That way I can sound like two hens talking at the same time, if I want. Also, I never have gotten the purr down with the diaphram. [&o]It's just beyond my capability. So, I have to have the hand calls to do the sweet talking.
