I am in favor of food plots. I hunt in east texas and I'll tell you the soil is horrible! Next year I am definitely going to plant food plots and use mineral licks. Reason being while the deer get plenty to fill their stomachs, there is hardly anything nutritious. Also, you will typically shoot does off a food plot. Unless you have low hunting pressure the big boys aren't coming out till dark. I used to hunt the hill country and out there deer swarm your corn because of food shortages. Out here they only will nibble at it if they happen to be passing by. Oh, and the deer out here are amazingly wary. We have yet to have any substancial amount of deer to stick around long at all. All that said I'm still in favor of food plots.
