I believe the .410 is big enough and in the state of ohio the DNR thinks so too because it is alowable hunting equipment. The .410 has a muzzle velocity of 1830 fps but only 650 pounds of energy. At work a guy took his 10 year old son out and he took a fifty yard quartering to shot and blew out the shoulder and hit the heart. I think it is an effective gun I just wouldn't shoot it past say sixty yards. .410 is bigger than most centerfires and im sure some of those guys that take 200+ yards shots have missed the shoulder and only hit lungs with success. Like i said though good, just not good and far.
