Using Foster or Brenneke slugs, these shoot best from a bore which is as close to slug diameter as possible, and which deform the slug the least as it passes through the bore. The reason the old-type Ithaca smoothbore Deerslayer barrels were so accurate is that they were made the size of the slug, (.687=.690 dia, for the 12-ga.) and had no choke at all.
