I would think yes, but most will be head shots? If so it really shouldn't matter. The fact that you're shooting UP into trees and stray bullets might be just as big a consideration. I know the boring old .22LR with "weak" subsonics is more than enough and cheap enough to shoot all day long every day. (not that the 17 is expensive)
