Mobowhuntr, I'm not sure I follow you. You see the rope would have to be secured at the top to climb up; even if you placed the rope after having climbed up (to use it as haul rope), you could then climb down with it, but you'd have to leave it secured to the top of the tree to do so. See what I mean? Or am I misunderstanding you? I apologize if I am.
No, you are understanding me. I use the same tree quite often, and leaving it secured at altitude wouldn't be a problem. The only draw back is I would be unsecured while climbing the first time.

OK.....let's say I am in a fixed position stand. Let's leave the climber out of it. To make my question more unobscured......Does the tag end HAVE to be tied to the base of the tree, or could it be used as a haul line?
