Not sure if you are looking for a bigger gun for deer hunting or just a plinker. If it is a plinker you can't go wrong with a Ruger 10/22, thats what my dad started me on when I was 6 years old. Then when I was 8 or 9 he won a Remington 700 ADL in 243, that I graduated up to for going coyote hunting with him. Then when I got 12 I went to a 30-06, 14 I bought a 7mm Rem Mag, and today I find myself going back more often than not to my Tikka T-3 in 243....
