RE: West Virginia Rut Activity???
didn't see hardly any movement during my hunting trip until the 17th and then it blew wide open. We had big bucks chasing all around us. Young bucks were coming to calling and rattling and even had a few nice bucks that were not with doe come to calling. Had a few nice bucks follow my drag rag trail, but passed on the them waiting for a big one, bad mistake... I waiting because I had several very nice P&Y or close to bucks trail doe in the area that we were hunting and thought maybe one would come close to me stand locations. I guess the turn in the weather got them moving Thursday, Friday and Saturday because we had not seen one sign of the rut and then it turned cold and bam it hit hard. I can kick myself for not shooting a smaller buck, but when you are seeing the big bucks at 50 and 60 yards you hold out and hope you get your chance, plus I thought I had rifle season to reach out and touch one if I didn't get one with a bow.... Well that didn't work as planned either, had high hopes for opening day of rifle season and didn't see not one set of horns the whole week or any sign of the rut. It is like it just shut down and the deer were not moving.
What did everyone else see or shot during the rut? Give me some details of dates, time and what they were doing.
