I cut a .257 Wby barrel from 26" to 24" about five years back. The velocity loss was right at 100 fps with 100 grain Hornady Interlock bullets and H-4831. BTW - I was not in favor of this modification, but the customer is always right
. The customer also did not own a chronograph andwas subsequently very happy with the performance of the shorter handier rifle.
