I learned the basics of trapping from a book and was pretty good at it so yeah, I think it's possible to learn the basics from a book but you'll need to apply those basics to your hunting area and particular hunting situation. Nothing will help you more than learning from your own mistakes.

All the info,scouting,stand selection and hanging out here will not make the arrow go where you want. You have to practice to be able to close the deal.
Very good advice from Buellhunter here. Practice and know your equipment and it's limitations.
