Rockytop, way to go man! This is an example of this board at its finest: It provided a forum where you could present an issue to the group, and gain insight and opinions (sometimes heated) from participants, which resulted in a decision being made by yourself that you feel is most appropriate. I happen to agree with you and I'm glad to see that you came to what I believe is a well though out conclusion.

Don't pressure youself so much- it isn't the # of deer that you kill that makes you a successful, competent, responsible hunter. It is the manner in which you (all of us) conduct ourselves and the enjoyment that we get from participating in one of the greatest sports.
