RE: Hope to change my luck
Bad luck's better than no luck at all, no?
I too had no luck this year. I had three weeks in the bush. The first week was the bp season. I was hunting public land. There was no one around and myself and another hunter had roughly 70 square miles to ourselves. There was no pressure at all on the game, so nothing was moving. It was also mild until the last two days, so that didn't help. Then the regular season came along and my brother showed up with a friend who's never hunted before. I lent him my 30-06 and kept the .50 cal through the whole season. I had to pass up two bucks, both 8 pointers, cause
I didn't have the range with the .50. My buddy saw two more bucks, one 8 & one 10 pointer from his stand so he took a shot at the 8 'cause he was bigger. The shot hit the ground about 10 feet in front of the buck. He jumped down from the stand and took a second shot. Same thing, hit the ground! He then ran to where the buck stood for the first shot and let one more fly... same thing as before. Then the nut case ran like there's no mayana after the buck thinking he would club it or something!! 400 yards at full throttle and he came out of the bush cluthching his chest and swearing like a drunkin sailor. Almost had a heart attack! When I tried my '06 two days before the season, I could have driven nails at 100 yards with it, so I don't know what he did. That day we went to the range and I put five rounds in an inch, almost two feet low at 50 yards. He either dropped the gun or something. Finally, on the last day I saw a buck about 100 yards away through thick brush. I tried stalking him but the leaves were dry that day and he casually walked away quicker than I could aproach quietly. Better luck next year I guess?! Oh yeah, some guy with a camper pulled in on the first day and had to leave the same day 'cause his wife fell ill or something. He came back on the last afternoon, closing day and decided to take a ride up the mountain with his atv and came back a half hour later with a spiker on the front end! That was a real kick in the pants! I spent three weeks in a prospector tent livin' on canned crap and this guy didn't even break a sweat fillin' his tag! Murphy's law I guess?! Atleast I got a whole lot of r&r and it was the first time in my life I took that much time off in a row. All in all it would have been nice takin' something home, but easier empty handed!
