Just an update from here.
When I was out last Friday and saw that 12 pointer, there was a guy there asking me questions about where to go. His 14 year old son was going to hunt there on Saturday. So I told him some good spots. When I went out on Tuesday, I set up in my favorite tree. As it got light out, I started seeing orange trail tape everywhere. It was on my tree and a tree 20 feet in front of me. Also ribbons of it hanging as a trail into this spot. About that time, a spike walked in. He started to cross a log and then stopped like he got punched in the face. There was a can laying on the log. He sniffed it and then walked around that area. I started looking harder in this area and saw 3 scent wicks still hanging in the trees. Now I am pissed. Someone has littered up this area and contaminated it. I didn't see another deer by 10:00 when I usually see 4-20 in this spot. I got down around 10:30 and started cleaning up these hunter's mess. The can was one of the Buck Bombs. I lost all respect for this guy and it's a shame that he is teaching his son to be so disrespectful of nature. As I was walking out, I found a state deer tag laying in the grass. My heart just sank. I looked at the name and it must have been this guy's son. Same last name.
So I hope that he didn't get the 12 and I go out again Friday. It had rained this week and I was hoping that the area got back to normal. I sat in that tree all say, 12 hours and didn't see a thing. I froze my butt off up there. It was like 17 degrees in the morning with a high of 32. I did see 2 community scrapes that had to be within the last 48 hours because of the rain. I think I am done with that spot. I checked another spot that I like on the way out and there was a dead spike about 15 feet from my tree stinking to high heaven. That spot is ruined also.
I'm sorry team but things aint looking good from here.
