RE: Gotta love those old surplus rifles!!
Gotta luv 'em is right! Was at the range today tryin' some new loads for 2 different Mausers; a Swedish 6.5 and a FN made Venezualen M-98 in 7mm. Both loads used Sierra 140gr BTSP's but in 6.5x55 and 7mm; pushed by IMR-4350. Shot them both at 100yds. The Swede was groupin' 1-1/8" to 1-1/4" and the Venezualen was averaging 1-1/2",because of those darn V-rear and tappered front post sights on it. I like peep-sights much better! But the "squared" profile of the sights on the Swede ain't too bad. I got a Nagant also but with Chinese ammo it groups about 3-1/2"at 100yds. Can't wait till Winchester releases the USA ammo in that caliber sometime this year! I guess the Nagant was the cheapest at $50, the Swede was next at $150, but the 7MM M-98 wasn't cheap but it is in REALY pristine condition for a surplus gun $400 and I bet I give some collector fits by just shooting it!<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>But I didn't get it just to look at!
