Well, although I haven't hunted elk yet, I will someday, and when that day comes, I'll be bringing along a .35 Whelen. Packs a punch (maybe not as much as a .300 Mag??) and Remington's now chambering it in their CDL Factory bullet selection is pretty slim, but I've heard the Federal Trohy Bonded Bear Claw works awesome. I'm 16, a big kid, and I don't find the recoil to be bad, I wouldn't want to shoot it all day long.but that's just me. But anyways, since I've never hunted elk, you can disregard this if you want
