Opening day in VA, need help with box call...
Today was opening day in VA for turkey. Kind of strange to have an opening day on Monday, but it does eliminate some of the crowds. Anyway, I bought a box call last night and I was attempting to use it. I don't know if I can tell the difference between a cluck and a yelp and I'm just wondering if there is any place on the internet that will give me some audio guidance so that I can try to emulate the calls CORRECTLY. I didn't see or hear a single turkey today, but I did manage to get 2 gray squirrels. The whole time I was using the call I was thinking to myself, "This sounds like the tree birds more than a turkey, I think!"
I know I should have prepared more than a day in advance, but for some reason I just had the urge to give turkey hunting a full fledged and dedicated try. There are lots of acorns and I know the area is right. I had full camo, except for the 12 gauge and my boots and hat. I positioned myself with my back to a tree sitting down. If any of that matters. Any guidance would be appreciated and thanks.
