I have been shooting for many years, but only recently started muzzleloading. I have this question...... Does anybody cover the muzzle while hunting, in order to protect the powder. I was thinking of using a finger cot or a finger from a latex glove.
If anybody does this, do you fire through the cover?? Will it stick to the muzzle??
Does anybody cover their primer??
I am shooting a Knight Wolverine w/ Nikon glass, 209 primers and 777 pellets.
Yes to both questions - I wrap some plastic wrap around the muzzle, and also around the lock section of both flinters and caplocks when hunting in wet weather. The last time I did this, I hunted for a week in the Adirondacks in the rain, and when I fired the rifle at the end of the hunt, it hit the target where it should have-and that with Clean Shot powder, which has a rep for being hygroscopic.....
Just as long as the rubber item is OVER the muzzle, ands not IN IT, it will be fine.... A finger from a latex glove should work well, as does a condom.
