Default RE: Texas Bowhunters...Report!

Well Rico, I have been fortunate enough that I have not had to hunt public land but when I was younger, I was on a different lease every year. It was quite frustrating because I never got to know the land and I only took a few doe off of these places. It was a pain the neck and a waiste of time and money.
Growing up I used to go up to Madisonville where my grandfather has owned 80 acres since 1970. For some odd reason I never thought of it as a place to deer hunt but a place for me and my freinds to go and camp out a night a drink beer. As time went on I learned more about deer and paid attention to the deer when I went up there. I realized about 6 years ago that this place was crawling with whitetails. My grandfather is not a hunter and he gave me, my dad and my brother-in-law permission to put up stands and to hunt it. We did for 2 seasons straight and by the end of the 2nd year we started seeing some good bucks. Well as luck would have it, I fell in love, got married and had a baby boy. That took up alot of time and I have not hunted Madisonville for 3 years now and neither has my dad or brother-in-law. Actually nobody has hunted this 200+ acres for over 3 years. I forgot to add that my grandfather bought an additional 120 acres that bordered his original 80 acres. He bought the additional 120 to run cattle on and he also re-fenced all of the property. The land up that way is gorgeous. Lots of thick mesquite thickets and oak flats. I'm already planning on going back up there to hunt this year. Nobody has pulled a trigger on this place for over 3 years and I'm excited.
For the most part I've been hunting my 13 acres that I live on. I know this land like the back of my hand and I know the deer pretty good. Here is some advice to you Rico. I don't know how your budget is but I'd look into buying some property way back in the woods. If you own the land, you will have success in getting a deer. All you need is 5 acres or so of wooded timber that borders alot of acreage. My 13 acres isn't all that much but man my feeder sure draws in the deer off of the surrounding acreage. Check out this acreage for sale. I believe it is in Walker County right up the road from me.

Here is all the other listings. Trust me, you'll have to dig for it but the land that you want is out there. Just and idea.
