I think many people confuse a shoulder blade hit with a "shoulder" hit...........when someone says "I blasted right through the shoulder and got a pass through I immediately assume they are talking shoulder blade. Many broadheads will pop through a shoulder blade........but to destroy a 4" solid round bone and keep pushing hard enough to get through the deer is an entirely different story.
Neither shot is a good one..........like BGFischer said.........you have plenty of room for error behind the shoulder......a good 4-6" will still keep you in the lungs...........too many guys try to tuck right in close to that shoulder and that is flirting with disaster.
