RE: Would you take a free hunt at King Ranch?
Just makes me wonder how many of the "Texas bashers" have even been within 500 miles of Texas... Generally I try to keep my mouth shut about things I have not experienced first hand, or at least let people know my opinions are not based on experience.[:'(]
Less than 1% of my county is under high fence. I don't know a single person that feeds protein, or has genetically altered his herd through any means EXCEPT selective harvest. The only "pen" for wildlife I've ever seen was in Bwanajims post. We did have a nontypical that scored 236 get killed last year, about 10 miles from my house. The ranch it was shot on covers 26 sections, all low fence. There was another that went 192, and the year before several more. The main reason it cost so much to hunt here is because of all the folks from other places with lots of money andmismanaged game populationscome here to hunt. It's hard to hold them off a 2 1/2 year old deer cause it's the biggest one they've shot in their life.
I have hunted since I was five, and my father has never "bought" me any animal. My boys have paid sweat and blood for the animals they have killed. We never even paid for a lease untill 2 years ago, untill out of state hunting drove the price of land through the roof. I learned to deer hunt by spot and stalk onthousands of acres, not on my butt in a tree stand. I'll tell you what, come down here and I'll show you the meaning of tough hunt. We'll walk about 10 miles doing spot and stalk on open grasslands with a bow. Find out some facts before you start painting the whole state with that broad a brush.
