Default RE: First deer with black powder.

ORIGINAL: bbbagman

I took my first deer with a black powder rifle lateFriday evening 10/14/05.

A small doe ( or so I thought ) came out to the bean field about 40 to 50 yards from my stand. I lifted my new omega loaded with a 250 gr Shockwave in front of two fifty gr pyrodex pellets. I put the crosshairs high on its shoulder and squeezed the trigger. Just as I shot; the deer leaned forward to sniff the ground. The bullet severed the backbonea little further back. As soon as I gathered my composure, I got down and finished the deer off in the head. It turned out to be a button buck; which dissapointed me, but there was nothing I could do.

I am pleased; nonetehless, to have shot my first deer with my new omega. The exit wound the .50 cal made was awesome. I am probably going to take it out again before the season over after I take a few with my 270 WSM.

Thanks to everyone who answered the questions I had buying and getting started with black powder hunting.
A special accomplishment...congratulations !
