RE: ballistics on under 50yds
Do you have a scope on the rifle? How high is the line of sight of the scope, above the bore? Unless you've sighted in for 50 yds or closer (not likely), you'll hit low. The flight path of your bullet starts below the line of sight, scope or not. Ballistics charts showing velocity, point of impact, energy and such are to be used as a comparison index at best. Simply shoot your rifle at different ranges and get a real-world example of what happens. Shooting is more fun than reading ballistics charts anyway.
