As a kid I brought home 80 percent of our meat with an old Winchester 22 Pump with the exposed hammer. There were no seasons to speak of. I shot Grouse, Pheasants Ducks and deer with that old gun. I even shot a couple pronhorns. Like I said, that was a different and simple time when we hunted for most of our meat. We usually couldn't afford to butcher a cow of pig as the income from them barely covered the fuel and seed for the next years crop. We did have lots of chickens though. My Mom raised several hunderd for eggs and meat. We never had to worry about eggs or milk.
