RE: Elk,moose,bear gun. 300,340 or 30-378Wby
Have someone run a borescope on your to see if it is coppered up that would explain the dropoff in accuracy. If it is then a good session with a gunsmith or a Foulout II will do the trick and restore the accuracy. If the accuracy has been so and so from the beginning have a custom barrel installed and that should do it. From my own experience the 300 wby is a fine Elk round however the 338 will really wack those Elk. The 340(Weatherby MK V) I owned never proved to be that accurate it had a lot more noticeable recoil than the 338 I now own and ammo was not available at most sport shops, I'm sure i was the exception in this case because plenty of guys like them and they do wack the cr%# out of Elk. They are also pretty fearsome recoil wise and exceed my personal recoil limit...The 30-378 is just too much and at 80 bucks a box a real pain to buy and to handload for.
If you don't want a muzzle brake and can stand a little recoil my top 3 wacker choices are 300 wthby,300 ultra,338 win mag.
If you must use a Muzzle Brake
340 weatherby,338 ultra mag, 375 H&H ,375 ultra mag
