Default opinions on a hunting ethics issue???

First of all, hello everyone I'm new to the site. I'm from upstate NY and a rookie bowhunter.
Sorry if this is a bit longwinded, but here's the situation. I own a golf course in NY. I have gun hunted for a # of years now. I have a few different pieces of land to hunt including the golf course. However, this year I decided to ask the farmer that borders the golf course if I could hunt his land. He was very friendly and has absolutely no problem with me hunting it. He took me around the 176 acre area to show me the boundries. I noticed the posted signs didn't have his name on them so I asked him about it. He said that one of the guys in the area post the land, but doesn't own it. Apparantly this guy has half the county posted without owning any of it. So after getting the name and phone #, I decided to look into it further to see what's going on. I wanted to see who hunts where and when. Very politely I said to him on the phone that we received permission to hunt the piece of land and myself and one more person were thinking of putting up some stands and hunting the area. As you may imagine..... it didn't go over too well. He had the attitude that because he has it posted, I shouldn't hunt it (even though I have permission from the landowner). I told him of about 10 different spots over 176 acres that we were thinking of hunting. Everyplace I mentioned, he says he usually hunts there. I'm not the kinda guy to step on anyones toes or be a jerk about things, but in my mind I have as much right to hunt the land as he does (or do I?). I offered to meet him out on the land to see if we can make some arrangements where we can all hunt the land with no problems, he hasn't called me back to do that yet. I think I've done everything I can do to resolve the situation. Maybe I'm wrong?? Should I just go to a different location?? The thing is, there's only going to be 3 people that bowhunt the property. Seems like 176 acres can comfortably accomodate us. Maybe he's worried about us taking deer during bow and having that many less deer for the rest of his hunting party (4 total) during gun season?? I don't plan on being anyplace near there during gun!! I dunno.......any thoughts?
