Well I dont know how many years he has done this but first thing I think of is that he is preparing a seed bed much like you would prepare one for native prairie. Grass can get so entrenched that it takes some time and plowings to break the root masses up..............just a very wild guess
That is probably true. I know we have a patch of land that is ussually turned into mud at another spot we hunt. The farmer always tells us that its because the soil gets so enriched with grass seed that it becomes an extra week of plowing to get it right befor the beans are planted.
