Very good advice from all but I think yall are over-looking one very important aspect in this scenerio.

Say you did get the bow to full-draw without spooking the deer, you're still screwed. IMO, 20 yds is the max distance to shoot at a deer that has you pegged. The deer is already wound tighter than a $2 watch and the chances of her "jumping" the string are very, very high.

I killed a small 6 pt once that had me busted at full-draw. I aimed at least 4" below his chest line and was comfortable with either him ducking into the shot or missing completely. He ducked, the arrow slammed home, and all was good. I suspect that if I had held behind his shoulder it would have been a clean miss, or a spine shot at best.
