I'm like you Taz. I've tried to sleep on purpose but inevitably all I can muster up is a kind of "quazi-sleep". I'll doze off but I'm still aware of my surroundings and feel conscious. Typically some noise will yank me back to alert-mode, breaking my trance.
I have taken naps in my truck though on a lunch break and I did once fall asleep on the ground while turkey hunting. The midday nap can be very refreshing.
