Hi Bill. I use a field point tipped arrow & roll the field point back & forth into just the leading edge (point) of the quill of another arrow. Press very firmly as you roll & soon you'll completely flatten the quill, leaving no discernable "edge" between the quill point & the shaft. Treating all your fletchings this way will hopefully help keep you from getting cut & may also enhance quill clearance across the shelf. Hope it helps.
