RE: any vermonters on here probly not lol so small no deer
Speaking up for SW Vermont, the deer herd started to go downhill in the early 80's when they loaded up on doe tags for the whole state during rifle season. Mountain herds were decimated, and most landowners around my neck of the woods posted their land due to the indiscriminate killing of anything on 4 legs. Now we have way too many "biologists" that know nothing of the animals we are hunting. In the 50's and 60's, Vermont used to have a deer kill around 15,000 bucks for the rifle season. There was no archery or blackpowder seasons to speak of. The hunters still around from that era will tell you no one shot spikes, every buck was a racked buck. Now we won't even touch that total with all three seasons. Our money is going to support the staff of the fish and game with none left over for anything else. That is why they allowed for a 2 deer limit instead of one, they needed the money from archery and muzzleloading tags. This greed will soon ruin the moose herd, with every years increase in alloted tags. The state had nothing to do with the moose success story, but they will have everything to do with ruining that herd as well. I think this years regulations will help, but only as a first step. Just my 2 cents.
