I really like the speed of the semi auto, but I obviously want reliability too. I know, I can't have my cake and eat it too!
I would consider the Remmington 7600 in 35 Whelen. Faster than any bolt, less recoil than a 338 winmag, 3500 lbs/ke up close, and a bigger hole. IMHO
PS: I would bet an autoloader would be more reliable than most hunters/(me) if a grizzly were actually charging and the adreneline was pumping.
Since the 338win produces about 500ftlbs more energy at the muzzle it makes sense that it would produce more recoil than a 35 whelen.
As to the reliability part,I can speak from actual experience having actually been charged by a grizzly, and the bolt action was not only reliable but very fast in getting off two shots.
