RE: 835 slug barrel: what's workin......
Turkey,
Although I have shot hundreds of sabot rounds through my Savage 210 I have never had an issue with plastic fouling. I clean the gun after every use with a good solvent. I will occasionally give it an hour or so to sit with Hoppes Benchrest Copper Solvent in the barrel.
This is an issue that is not brought up here often. I will be interested to hear what others have to say.
My guess would be that it mostly a problem in cheaper barrels or barrels that have not been shot alot.
It could be argued that I have plastic build up in my barrel and I am just not aware of it. However, I maintain my guns quite well and have never noticed any change in accuracy, or any other signs that would indicate plastic fouling.
I would say that plastic fouling ranks relatively low on the scale of concerns that affect a slug gunner and his/her accuracy.
HOPPE'S BENCH REST 9® COPPER SOLVENT
Formulated especially for bench rest shooters, Hoppe's Bench Rest 9® is the standard by which all copper solvents are judged. Bench Rest 9 makes it possible for bench rest shooters and serious hunters to clean their bores of copper fouling overnight...instead of three or four days. Bench Rest 9 is powerful, safe and fast, and contains no abrasives. And although the solvent is essentially a coper-buster, it's also great for removing powder, lead and plastic foulings from all rifles, shotguns, pistols and revolvers.
