Default RE: Katrina vs. LA environment

Is there anyone else who is very concerned about the effect that Hurricane Katrina is going to have on the winter homes of more than 10 million ducks? What is going to happen to the deer herd in half of the state? Is there any one trying to rescue Mother Nature from the unthinkable devistation that could be, if waterfowl fly south-get infected with bacteria-and fly north again?

What would you have us do?

Seriously - There was no preventing the hurricane. The toxic water results in New Orleans while bad - will not effect a large population of any animal species - though it could be very bad for local populations. When people are still being saved, and property damage tops 50 billion dollars - Not even most environmentalists will put the flora/fauna near the top of the obstacles to overcome.

The huricane damage in Mississipi & Alabama will help deer and other animal populations due to the coastal change in habitat. Not sure about the Southernmost wetlands of Louisiana - but I suspect the long term effect will be beneficial there as well. Catastrophic acts of nature - are usually followed by population explosions - contrary to what some might think.
