Installing a new recoil pad can make a world of difference in felt recoil. I havea Sims Pre-fit and many Pachmayr grind to fit recoil pads, both do an excellent job at absorbing some of the jolt. Attached is a couple of links to both manufacturer's. Word of caution don't assume a pre-fit will fit your stock. If possible take your rifle to the shop and try the models suggested to see if indeed they will work for you. If not you can have a gunsmith put on a grind to fit model by either manufacturer for not a lot more (well at least up here that is).

I would stay away from a brake personally as shooting them without hearing protection can damage your hearing with even a single shot fired.
