I don't think it would be a good sight for targets as the fiber is kinda big and it's too bright. It would be distracting, to me at least. I haven't used it in a blind, but I'd be willing to bet it would be better than anything else that's out there that doesn't have a light on it. I'm pretty sure you can get a light for it as well, but there really is no need for one as far as I'm concerned. You can see the pin right until it's too late to shoot.
Anyhoo, getting back to the modification, I took the rear adjustment knob off since the front one is the one that tightens up everything. However, when you are at the top or bottom of the adjustment scale, it's kinda hard to move it unless you use the rear of the sight.
If there was a way to eliminate the front adjustment knob, still have everything tightend up, and just use the rear knob, that would be the ideal situation.
