If the farthest shot is gonna be only about 165 yards, i would stay away from the huge guns like the .300 mags and all that. i hunt here in ky i alot of thick stuff and i use a .35 caliber and i have killed 3 with it. drops them in their tracks. anything from a 30-30 to a .260 would be a good gun.
