I hear ya. Those things are deadly on smallmouth, but they run anywhere from 4-5 bucks a dozen here where i live, and half the time the bait stores are out.

I river fish for the smallies beneath a dam, and the best lure for me in this type situation has always been a jointed rapala minnow in crawfish color.
