The first rifle I ever owned was a .22lr. I was young. I was learning.
Then came my first centerfire. The 30-06. I'll never forget the first time
we fired it. I was about 13. My buddy(16) and I took his fathers truck to the sand dunes. We loaded her up and I was shaking with excitement.
The first shot fired scared the crap out of us! My buddy (6foot2) never
even shot it he was too scared. I didn't know whether I should throw the
gun in the bush and scramble or what! If it weren't for the spent shells
of the same caliber left behind by other shooters I would have split!
I never anticipated how loud it was, nor did we have ear plugs. I'll
never forget that day! My vote goes to the '06! Today I own bigger, better
badder guns, but that memory just brings a smile to my face every time!
